Bizarre sex crimes in Zimbabwe

I overheard this story on the BBC radio news tonight: a group of women in Zimbabwe have been accused of committing a series of rapes against men in order to collect their semen for alleged “ritualistic” reasons. Apparently they meant to sell the semen for use in rituals to promote wealth. In contrast with most male rapes which involve forceful anal penetration, the victims were administered a drug to give them erections and made to have vaginal intercourse with the women.

I have to admit a degree of skepticism about some of the details. Nonetheless my heart goes out to the victim – it’s hard to believe he would suffer this kind of public humiliation by choice.

For context, there are as many as several dozen reported rapes of women in Harare each month.
