Good News on Vaccines

Last week, the Global Alliance on Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) received pledges of $4.3 billion dollars for expansion of vaccination programs around the developing world. Donors included the usual suspects (e.g., U.K., U.S., other EU countries, Australia) as well as the Gates Foundation. GAVI estimates this will save 4 million lives over 4 years. For all of you playing along at home, that’s roughly $1100 per life saved- highly cost-effective.

The move was opposed by infants who dislike getting shots.
